I’m Chip Moreno, a remote founder and software engineer.

I build and operate bootstrapped internet businesses in industries that still depend on a lot of service work: immigration, U.S. expat taxation, legal translations, insurance referrals, and media.

The work behind them is what interests me. Documents need to move, customers need answers, and decisions need context. I’m exploring how much of that can be handled by software and AI, and where people still need to be involved.

The businesses are the starting point.

I built EcuaPass, FileAbroad, EcuadorTranslations, and EcuaInsure around the practical problems of living and doing business across borders. I also operate CuencaExpat, ExpatEcuador, and EcuadorBrief, covering Ecuador in English.

These are businesses I operate, with customers and workflows to understand. They give me a place to test whether an automation actually makes the work better.

What I’m exploring now

AI agents, agent orchestration, and MCP—the Model Context Protocol for connecting models to tools and data. I’m interested in the developer tools and AI-native software that make these systems useful inside a business.

The larger question is organizational: how much economic output can an extremely small company produce? I want to use software to reduce the need for coordination as the business grows.

That means understanding workflows, deciding what to automate, and knowing where a human needs to make the call. I’m working through those questions as an operator and a software engineer.

How I got here

Before software and entrepreneurship, I worked in mortgage lending. It was an introduction to how money, documents, and people move through a process—and how much friction can accumulate between them.

I earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Western Governors University (WGU) in January 2025. Since then, I’ve been building and operating businesses remotely.

Working across countries has shaped how I build: small operations, clear workflows, and software that lets the business work across time zones.

Outside work, I’m usually reading. I like classical music and occasional travel.
